Mark 16:2-8
Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked each other, ‘Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?’
4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
6 ‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, “He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”’
8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
He has risen! Possibly the three most important words ever spoken.
We worship, serve and walk daily with a Saviour who is living and at the right hand of the Father. Remember that Jesus did not die and go to heaven. He died, rose again and then ascended to heaven – alive!
There is a wonderful scene in Rev. 5 when John is seeing into heaven and weeps because no-one can be found worthy to open the scroll of God’s purposes and judgements for the world. Then, one of the elders surrounding the throne of God tells him, ‘Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.’
This is the result of Easter Sunday and the resurrection. Christ has triumphed!
As the creatures and elders around God’s throne sang to the risen and exalted Christ –
‘You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals,
because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.’
Because of the resurrection we also will reign with Him.
Therefore, on this Easter Sunday we can join with –
every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea,
and all that is in them, saying: ‘To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever!’
